Module Information
The two Core Units which all students follow are:

* Understanding inclusive education
* Research for inclusive education

There is a range of Option Units from which you can choose. These may include:

* Introduction to the autism spectrum
* Specific learning difficulties (dyslexia): developing inclusive practice
* Behaviour, emotional and social difficulties, developing inclusive practice
* Inclusive teaching for bilingual learners

* Core Units Research for Inclusive Education This unit will introduce you to key issues in educational research, in the context of inclusive education. This unit forms essential preparation for the Dissertation for the MA (Inclusive Education & Special Educational Needs).

Understanding Inclusive Education This unit presents an overview of the field of inclusive education and introduces students to key concepts and terminology. You are encouraged to reflect on your understandings of special educational needs and to consider alternative approaches in the context of recent research on inclusion and diversity in education.


* Optional Units Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties : Developing Inclusive Practice This unit will explore the complex and challenging issues of developing effective inclusive provision that seeks to address barriers to learning associated with Behavioural, Emotional and Social Difficulties. We will examine this within a context of policy, and statutory frameworks, research, theory and practice.

Dissertation The dissertation is an extended piece of writing which reports on a research project.

Introduction to the Autism Spectrum This unit introduces you to the autism spectrum, outlining the key features of the condition and explaining the variability in presentation between individuals. Differences in the way children and young people with ASC think and learn are described before approaches to support learning are outlined.

Research Project The Research Project is a small-scale practitioner research project leading to an extended Research Report in the area of inclusive education or special educational needs.

Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia): Developing Inclusive Practice This unit offers an introduction to specific learning difficulties, and considers how to develop inclusive practices with learners identified as having dyslexia. The unit examines the complexities of causation; introducing Primary and Secondary practitioners to screening tools and a range of diagnostic assessment materials.



Assessment details
Each Unit is assessed through a written assignment equivalent to 5,000 words; this may include alternative formats, such as a presentation. Each assignment is designed to be flexible to enable you to focus your research on an area that is most relevant to you.
Our virtual learning environment, Moodle, provides each unit with its own website which contains all necessary learning materials plus a wealth of additional resources you can access from home.

Either a good Honours degree (minimum second class or equivalent) in teaching, or other equivalent professional qualification and relevant experience; with evidence of the ability to study successfully at Masters level. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 7 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa.
