Analytical Chemistry is the discipline in chemistry focusing on identification and quantification of chemical compounds. Analytical Chemistry involves all the topics of the Analytical Chain ranging from sampling strategy to the final reporting of data. It includes areas such as analytical methodology, techniques for sampling, separation and spectroscopic methods, instrumental techniques, handling, processing and evaluation of data, etc.


The Master programme in Analytical Chemistry is connected to the various prominent research areas at the Department of Analytical Chemistry of which some are internationally highly recognized. The Department is the largest Department of Analytical Chemistry in Sweden and the research profile includes ambient air, indoor air, particle analysis, exhaust emissions, work environments, environmental analysis, proteomics, multivariate data analysis, theoretical chromatography etc.

The Master Programme consists of compulsory advanced courses in Analytical Chemistry of totally 105 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System), one freely elective course of 15 ECTS. The compulsory advanced courses include a Diploma Project in Analytical Chemistry of at least 45 ECTS.

The Diploma Project focuses on performing independent research within a research group at the Department or in the industry. It also includes oral presentations and the writing of a scientific report. The Diploma Project finalizes the Master in Analytical Chemistry and prepares the student for a professional career in industry, academia or other activities in society.

The Master Programme in Analytical Chemistry is open for Swedish as well as international students and all courses are given in English.

General requirements for Master's programmes:- An academic degree (i.e. a Bachelors degree or the equivalent, at least 180 ECTS.) Stockholm University does accept applicants in their last year of Bachelor's studies. See note below: Previous university records- Proficiency in English, which must be demonstrated in one of the following ways: * IELTS score (Academic) of 6.5 or more (with no section scoring below 5.5) * TOEFL score 20 in written test, total score of 90 (internet based) * TOEFL score 4,5 in written test, total score of 575 (paperbased) * Cambridge/Oxford - Advanced or Proficiency levelTOEFL test scores must be sent directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS), to University Admissions in Sweden (institution code: SWEDEN 3477).English language test exemptions Some students may be exempt from submitting formal test evidence. These are: * Students who have a Bachelor's degree from a university where English is the only language of instruction, according to the latest edition of International Handbook of Universities. * Students who have a Bachelor's degree (a Swedish Kandidatexamen or equivalent academic qualifications) with English as the major subject. * Students with a 4-year university degree in Engineering, Science or Technology from India and Pakistan. * Students who have 30 HE credits from a Nordic country and the language of instruction of the course/programme/university is English.Previous university records If you have a university degree or if you are studying at undergraduate level you must demonstrate this by sending certified transcripts of your completed courses and grades to University Admissions. If you are in your last year of Bachelor's studies you must also submit an official document stating that you are likely to be awarded the degree by the start of the Swedish programme. Please note: If your degree was awarded in Cameroon, Canada, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, or USA, an official transcript of record must be sent directly from your university in a sealed envelope, to the address above. Scholarships offered by Stockholm University and other organisations

Stockholm University Scholarship Scheme
The scholarship scheme at Stockholm University is aimed at especially qualified students coming from countries outside of EU/EEA/Switzerland and who are required to pay tuition fees for studies commencing after June 2011.

Please note that only scholarship applications from students admitted for a Master's programme commencing in the autumn semester at Stockholm University will be considered. Priority will be given to students with Stockholm University as their first choice in the national application rounds. Please see for more information concerning fees.

Stockholm University scholarships cover tuition fees only, which means that students will need to cover their own living costs.

Application Procedure and Notification of Results:

Students admitted for a Master's programme at Stockholm University in the first notification of results on March 27th 2013, for programmes commencing autumn semester 2013, will be sent an electronic application form to the email address given in their application to universityadmissions.se. The application has to be returned by March 31st and the nominees will be informed around April 5th.

Scholarships offered by the Swedish Institute
The program is open to candidates from two different categories of countries. Please note that if your country is included under Category 1 you can only apply within that category.

Category 1:

Candidates with citizenship from the following countries: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

Category 2:

Candidates with citizenship from countries on the DAC list of ODA recipients can apply to this program, though some countries are given priority. Please note that citizens who can apply for any of the scholarship programmes listed below are excluded from this scholarship.
