The MRes in Animal Behaviour is one of a suite of MRes programmes. It provides a springboard into a career that involves a working knowledge of scientific research in academia and industry.
It is designed for graduates with a BSc in the life sciences and is also suitable for graduates from other science disciplines and for intercalating and fully qualified MBBS or BDS students. The MRes can be taken either as a stand-alone qualification or act as an entry route onto a PhD or MD.

The programme provides training in contemporary biosciences through three subject-knowledge modules in or related to:
animal behaviour
professional and key skills training
a 24-week laboratory-based research project.
The programme enables you to experience an internationally competitive research area, predominantly in academia but also potentially in industry.
If you register for an integrated MRes/PhD, MRes/MD or MRes/DDS you will be allocated projects that are relevant to your proposed PhD or MD, or DDS programme.
The core module on the biological study of behaviour introduces the central questions related to animal behaviour research (adaptive consequences, proximate mechanisms, development, and evolutionary history) and the research methods associated with each.
Research-led seminars, delivered by members of Newcastle University's Centre for Behaviour and Evolution, form a significant part of the programme and cover a wide range of taxa (insects to humans), topics (olfaction to cooperation), and methodologies.

An upper-second-class Honours degree, or international equivalent, in a science or related discipline. We will also consider applicants with a good MBBS degree. Practical laboratory experience is beneficial, but not essential.Applicants whose first language is not English require a minimum of IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.5 for each sub-section), Pearson's PTE Academic Test 62, or equivalent. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa. The IELTS test is most widely accepted by universities and is also accepted for Tier 4 visas to the UK- learn more.
