This is a new course that responds to the needs of the holders of accredited BEng degrees to receive further learning through MSc courses in order to satisfy the educational requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Many of the modules are delivered in a form suitable for study in the workplace. Pathways through the course at present are in civil engineering.

Career Prospects
The course is designed for graduates already in relevant employment, incorporating an element of workplace learning and aiding development of career opportunities within the context of their own employment.

This degree is accredited as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired a Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng(Hons) or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree.

Many of the modules are delivered in a form suitable for study in the workplace. Pathways at present are in civil engineering.

Students are required to take engineering management, either as a taught module or a project based module. The remaining modules are selected from the following list. Modules taken from other disciplines across the School should satisfy nontechnical broadening requirements. Completion of modules will lead to the award of the Postgraduate Diploma. Completion of modules and a research dissertation will lead to the award of the Masters degree. The dissertations are based on advanced topics that involve original analytical or experimental work. This may be carried out in the workplace, under the joint supervision of an academic and industrial supervisor.
Students interested in this course may also be interested in the Civil Engineering Structures course and the Analysis and Design of Structures for Fire, Blast and Earthquakes course.

Modules include:

Civil engineering modules available under the engineering and science deepening category include:

* Advanced analysis and stability of structures
* Structural dynamics
* Finite element methods
* Structural reliability and risk
* Shock and earthquake analysis

Technical broadening modules, which can be studied in the workplace, include:

* Design of concrete structures
* Design of steel and composite structures
* Bridge engineering
* Design of concrete and steel structures exposed to fire

The standard entry requirement is an Honours degree (lower second class minimum) in civil engineering or another appropriate subject, plus evidence of good (equivalent to lower second class or higher) academic performance in relevant subjects.For those students whose first language is not English or have not previously attended studies in English, one of the following qualifications is also required: * IELTS: 6.5, including 6.5 in the writing category * TOEFL (internet based): 90 English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 TOEFL iBT® test: 90 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom.
