The Bachelor of Arts (Music) (Theory and History) allows you to gain valuable insights into a composer’s creative thoughts and technical methods to develop your understanding and appreciation of music.

This degree consists of courses in music history and repertoire, including both classical and popular Western traditions, as well as courses in both aural and written musicianship, including song-writing and harmony.

  • Interview/audition/folio requirements

Each applicant must bring the following to their interview:

  • a passport-sized photo of themselves
  • a school exit statement or evidence of previous education standard achieve
  • folio of achievements and references.

English Language Requirements

Domestic and international students from a non-English speaking background are required to satisfy English Language requirements. This program requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent.

If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Pre-requisites

Year 12 Senior Certificate or equivalent from a recognised institution. Find your country's level of qualificationand minimum entry requirements for this program.

  • Recommended: successful completion of at least Grade 3 Theory or Musicianship (AMEB) or equivalent.
  • At least HA for QSA Music for Year 11 and 12.
  • Approximately Grade 7 standard (AMEB), depending on instrument.
  • Instrumental and vocal applicants: audition (two contrasting items); short aural, theoretical and general knowledge tests.

Each applicant must bring the following to their interview/audition:

You may be able to apply for scholarships to help with your study costs.
