Situated in Israel's cultural, financial and technological capital, TAU shares Tel Aviv's unshakable spirit of openness and innovation – and boasts a campus life as dynamic and pluralistic as the metropolis itself. Tel Aviv the city and Tel Aviv the university are one and the same – a thriving Mediterranean center of diversity and discovery.

Consistently ranked in the top 20 in the world in terms of scientific citations and among the top 100 universities internationally, Tel Aviv University is also Israel's first choice for students, and its graduates are the most sought after by Israeli companies. Global in outlook and impact, TAU advances teaching and research that break down the walls between disciplines, striving to address the twenty-first century's most pressing challenges through bold, interdisciplinary solutions.

It provides them with the tools for professional receptiveness and flexibility. The undergraduates receive comprehensive and basic training in the foundation of modern engineering in general and in particular the special needs of Israel. The graduate studies in the faculty focus on expanding the knowledge of the B.Sc. and enables the students to specialize in areas of applied and basic research.

  • Faculty of Humanities

The information revolution is redefining knowledge and traditional views of education. To keep abreast of the meteoric developments, both students and scholars must be given the resources to explore material of constantly increasing complexity. At the same time, institutions of higher learning must have the scope and flexibility to accommodate the many students for whom the Bachelor's degree will be the only higher education they seek, and those for whom it is merely the gateway to advanced degrees and specialized training.
The Faculty of Humanities is ideally situated to meet these challenges. With an infrastructure that brings History, Jewish Studies and Cultural Studies under one roof, a distinguished faculty with a commitment to excellence in scholarship, and an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research, students at all levels are offered the pluralistic education essential to keeping them in the mainstream. Those seeking a general education have the choice of a broad range of courses and curricula, and those aspiring to a professional or academic career are offered advanced degrees fashioned from a variety of disciplines taught by outstanding teachers.

The curriculum at TAU Law includes a vast array of courses and seminars that are aimed at enhancing students' ability to address local and global legal and social issues. Approximately 45 of the offered courses are taught in English. TAU Law also provides a wide range of opportunities for theoretical research and practical legal experience as it strives to create a stimulating learning environment for its students and scholars. Among these are the Faculty's unique legal workshops, which introduces students to cutting-edge research by leading scholars from Israel and abroad, and which allows them to review and contribute to yet-unpublished legal scholarship. Our LL.B. students also have the opportunity to take part in one of the Faculty’s many legal clinics and public interest programs, providing them with meaningful practical skills and experiences, while giving back to the community.

Student life at Tel Aviv University

Situated in the heart of Israel’s coastal region, Tel Aviv University resides on a spacious 220 acre campus. Located in suburban Ramat Aviv, just north of the city, the University is minutes away from downtown Tel Aviv. Tel Aviv University’s proximity to the cultural and commercial capital of Israel allows students to absorb the best of Israeli society.

TAU aims to make its campus a central venue not only for rigorous academic research, but also a wide range of exciting cultural and social events. Music concerts, film screenings, art exhibitions, poetry readings, and many other activities are held on campus. These are open to TAU students, staff, and often the general public.

The dynamic and ever-changing program of cultural and social events reflects the interests of the TAU community, and some highlights are outlined below.

As Thursday is the last day of the Israeli working week, TAU encourages students and staff to kick off their weekend with a host of exciting events: gallery exhibits, film screenings, musical performances, and lectures on a variety of academic fields. Young artists are given the opportunity to showcase their work and the public is invited to share in these activities, which take place from early afternoon until late evening.

Every two years The Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival, the largest student film festival in the world, takes place in Tel Aviv, organized from start to finish by TAU students and staff. Renowned actors, directors, and cinematographers deliver lectures and master classes as part of the festival. Hundreds of student films from all over the world are screened for festival goers.

TAU encourages students to take part in performances and creative events during their studies. The Department of Theater Arts and the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music put on performances jointly and separately, allowing students to demonstrate their creativity and hard work throughout the year. These achievements are enjoyed by the TAU community and the general public.

Every Wednesday, the largest outdoor venue on campus (the lawn in front of the Gilman building) comes alive with the sound of rock music! No need to buy tickets – students and staff can enjoy performances by Israel's leading young artists for free! Lunch al fresco on the grass is particularly recommended.
