Deggendorf Institute of Technology

Deggendorf Institute of Technology was founded in 1994. It is a public university of applied sciences for technology and engineering studies, business, and media. Clarity and a clear profile are the strengths of this young university in the southeast of Bavaria. Great importance is given to practical and especially international orientation. The student-centred campus offers all the facilities of a modern university: five lecture theatres (with 90-200 seats), 27 seminar rooms (for 25-80 students), 43 laboratories, all state-of-the-art and meeting the highest standards. These are complemented by excellent library and learning resource facilities.

With our extensive collection of books, journals and multimedia resources, we meet almost all individual requirements. The European Campus Rottal-Inn belongs to the Deggendorf Institute of Technology. It is a new and exciting campus, working with partner universities in Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Spain to offer international undergraduate and postgraduate healthcare and medical tourism degrees of the highest academic standards. Language programme: we aim to educate our students to be multilingual, global graduates fully prepared for international careers. For this reason, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees are either partially or completely taught in English, supported by specialised foreign language programmes.

Modular and flexible study programme: degrees have a modular structure, allowing students the freedom to choose from a range of modules according to their academic progress and focus area, thus enabling them to develop their own individual career plan. Graduates' professional careers: successful graduates will earn top degrees combining high academic standards with international experience. They can launch their professional careers with relevant qualifications for the modern, rapidly expanding recreation, healthcare and medical tourism industries such as in destination management for travel companies, in marketing or event management for hotels and thermal spas or in informatics for the specialised medical sector.

The Bavarian council of ministers decide that a university should be founded in Deggendorf.

1994/95

The university opens its doors and enrolls the first 90 students in business administration

The first logo is created:  „Fachhochschule Deggendorf - Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft“.

Foundations are laid for the new campus on Edlmairstraße

The new campus accepts its first admissions in 4 courses: business administration, civil and construction engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.

Introduction of a new coorporate identity „HDU“ meaning Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften Deggendorf or in english, Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences.

Pfarrkirchen is a municipality in southern Lower Bavaria, the capital of the district Rottal-Inn. It has about 12,500 inhabitants and is an important school centre with about 10,000 pupils from all over Lower Bavaria. The town spreads over an area of about 52 square kilometres and lies approximately 377 metres above sea level. Pfarrkirchen lies at the small river "Rott", which gives the "Rottal" region its name. A well known sight of Pfarrkirchen is the so-called "Wimmer-Roß", a larger than life bronze statue of a black stallion, located at the heart of the town.

It was built in 1966 by the sculptor Hans Wimmer who donated the statue to his hometown. It symbolises the high status of horse breeding in the Rottal region. Rottal-Inn enjoys a typical Central European climate, with warm summers and idyllic snowy winters to make the most of countless recreational activities on offer.
