  • School of Management and Communications

Every student learns differently. However, I have found that successful leaders and managers are also effective lifelong learners that know how they learn best. Therefore, it is my philosophy to include two learning objectives for all my courses so students have opportunities to develop both the explicit leadership and management skills and abilities they will need lead and manage; as well as, the tacit lifelong learning skills and abilities they will need to grow as a leader and manager.”

  • School of Liberal Arts and Sciences

To be an effective educator you must have passion for your field and love to work with young people. An educator must inspire students. When the fear of science is turned into a successful academic experience for a student, what more could you ask for? You have achieved your goal.

  • School of Social Sciences

As a professional with a diverse cultural background and a psychological perspective, I believe that learning should include self-exploration for developmental growth. The process of learning and growing in an academic institution is an evolving dynamic that must involve a reciprocal relationship of openness and trust between student and professor.

“You must be the change you want to see in the world.”— Mahatma Gandhi. I was raised by my grandmother, an uneducated woman that came from rural Puerto Rico. She taught me what it means to “Be the change I want to see in the world.” It is through this relationship with my students that I hope to inspire the change I would like to see in them.

  • School of Human Services and Health Professions

Professor Bowe’s research focuses on understanding the experiences of academics and practicing professionals that transition into academic leadership positions in higher education. Her research further investigates relationships amid institutional conditions and academic leaders as they relate to this transition.

Fisher College first opened its doors in 1903 in the predominantly working-class city of Somerville, Massachusetts, just two miles north of Boston. The school traces its roots to educational entrepreneurs Myron and Edmund Fisher, who believed the immigrants of that city in the early 1900s should have an opportunity to advance beyond unskilled labor jobs.

In 1952, the Board of Regents of Higher Education of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts approved Fisher as a two-year college, and five years later it was given degree-granting powers. In 1970, Fisher gained accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and operates as an independent, non-profit educational institution, currently boasting a diverse population of students from all parts of America and many foreign countries.

The Division of Accelerated and Professional Studies was established in 1975 to serve the adult population of Eastern Massachusetts, with branch locations in Boston, Brockton, North Attleborough, and New Bedford. The Fisher Online division began in 1998, and currently serves students from all over the United States and around the world.

Fisher College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. through its Commission on Institutions of Higher Education.

Accreditation of an institution of higher education by the New England Association indicates that it meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically applied though a peer review process. An accredited college or university is one which has available the necessary resources to achieve its stated purposes through appropriate educational programs, is substantially doing so, and gives reasonable evidence that it will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Institutional integrity is also addressed through accreditation.

Accreditation by the New England Association is not partial but applies to the institution as a whole. As such, it is not a guarantee of every course or program offered, or the competence of individual graduates. Rather, it provides reasonable assurance about the quality of opportunities available to students who attend the institution.

Commuting students are an integral part of Fisher College's student life. All events, organizations, and clubs are open to commuters. The Division of Student Life strongly encourages these students to actively participate in College activities and to make good use of all the services provided (e.g. counseling, health services, etc.). To make their transition easier, the College offers the following services:
COMMUTER LIAISON
A Commuter Liaison is available to provide support to commuter students and to help them navigate College life. The Commuter Liaison advises the Commuter Student Association, which facilitates connections between commuters and gives commuter students a forum through which to express their concerns. Commuter luncheons also take place once a month.

TRANSPORTATION
Fisher College is easily accessible by public transportation. We are located near the Arlington Street T-stop. Subway, bus, and commuter rail discount passes are available from the Office of Housing and Residential Life.

PARKING
Parking is not available on College property; however, Beacon Street and the surrounding areas do have metered parking on the street. Two large parking garages are within walking distance.

MAILBOXES
Each commuter student is issued a campus mailbox located in the Mall area. Announcements, updates, and official correspondence from the College are put in the mailboxes.

LOCKERS
Lockers are available from the Housing Office for $30 per year or $15 per semester. Small lockers are available for $10 a semester. There is a $10 additional charge if the locker key and lock are not returned.

Students living off campus must file a local home address with the Registrar's Office upon arrival at the College and should notify the Registrar's Office of changes in this information.

Boston, Massachusetts--Where the seeds of the American Revolution were planted, and the Freedom Trail offers an informal tour of several famous historical sites. Boston is a major center for the arts, with internationally regarded museums, a rich theatre tradition, and a busy concert schedule featuring A-list entertainers. A half a million people crowd the Esplanade every July 4th for the Boston Pops concert and Fireworks Spectacular.
Boston is a dynamic sports hub as well, with teams representing all four major sports, not to mention the world-famous Boston Marathon and the annual Head of the Charles Regatta. Unique cafes and eateries, shopping for things large and small and much more is only a few steps or an MBTA subway ride away!

The Office of Student Involvement and Leadership encourages students to be actively engaged and involved on campus by providing opportunities for leadership and involvement that enhance personal, interpersonal, and organizational development. For that purpose, we serve the college community as advisors, administrators, educators, and resources for students and student organizations.

Approximately 300 students make their homes in one of the College's four residence halls. Located just around the corner from the Public Gardens and Boston Common, students reside in elegant, 1900's "brownstone" townhouses with all the comforts of home. The turn of the century residence halls have modern amenities such as security systems, common areas with full-size refrigerators and microwaves, and TV/Lounge rooms with both cable TV and DVD players making the halls a comfortable place to study, relax, or just hang out with friends. While each living area is unique, each fosters an environment that is conducive to learning.
Professional staff and student leaders live and work in each residence hall. Recreational activities, leadership opportunities, referrals to support services, and a listening ear are just a few of the benefits of living on campus.

Fisher's friendly and informative financial counselors are on hand to assist students and parents with any questions they may have.

Campus Police and Public Safety: The Chief of Public Safety leads the Department. The Chief manages all operations and supervises the full-time and part-time officers. Safety and Security Officers are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment throughout the College. Officers enforce College rules and regulations, local and state laws, patrol campus buildings and grounds, respond to medical and fire emergencies, investigate incidents, and facilitate the response of emergency services as required. All officers receive training in various aspects of public safety and emergency medical response, and are sworn officers vested with full police powers pursuant to Massachusetts General Law.

Career Services: Utilizing the Fisher for Your Future model, the Office of Career Services seeks to engage students at their developmental stage to address their specific educational and career-oriented goals. Recognizing students’ unique and diverse traits, the OCS helps guide them in gaining the skills and planning appropriately to reach their professional aspirations.

Health Services: The Health Services Office provides assessment, treatment, or referral for illness or accidents that occur within the Fisher Community. The goal of the Health Services Office is to teach students to become increasingly self-reliant and able to make sound judgments about taking care of themselves. While in-house services are free, the student is financially responsible for all referred services.

Information Services: The Department of Information Services provides the College community with network support, internet connectivity, computer labs, communication services, and technical training. These services include all computers, servers, database systems, security and data networks on campus. The IT Helpdesk is also available to the College community for assistance with any technical problems.

Registrar: The Office of the College Registrar is responsible for maintaining student academic records, ensuring students are complying with all academic regulations and policies, and ultimately certifying eligibility for graduation. During students' enrollment at Fisher, they can utilize the Registrar's Office for a variety of services, including requesting transcripts, adding/dropping courses, course withdrawals, certifying degrees and dean's lists, and course advising. For more information, please click on the links to the left or contact the Office.

Student Accessibility Services: The Office of Student Accessibility Services (OSAS) is here to support you during your enrollment. Our office is the central point where students request and obtain reasonable classroom, course, program and/or possibly housing accommodations. We can also help you with obtaining external accommodations, referrals to educational testing sites, academic counseling, self-help resources, and most of all serve as a guide and liaison for you. The goal is to help level the "playing field" for students in compliance with the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Accommodations are arranged on a case-by-case basis each semester.
