Bamberg University

Founded from a Jesuit college in the 17th century, Bamberg University is Bavaria's oldest university. Naturally, the university is mainly located in the more than 1,000-year-old Old Town. The Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Sciences (WIAI) occupies a new building in the north of the Old Town, on the tip of the island between the river Regnitz and the Main-Danube Canal. The WIAI Faculty has been at home on the Erba island since the 2012/13 winter semester. The lecture theatres and seminar rooms are furnished with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment.

The computer labs are spacious and offer a modern IT infrastructure. The facilities are surrounded by a park in which the Bavarian State Garden Show was held in the summer of 2012. The park is open to the public and affords students and faculty the opportunity for outdoor sports activities or simply to relax and take a break outdoors. Counselling and good organisation are given great priority; the student-teacher ratio in the degree courses at the WIAI Faculty is excellent. In the 2012 Wirtschaftswoche ranking, the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics, and Business Administration is ranked 20th in business administration (Betriebswirtschaftslehre) and 11th in economics (Volkswirtschaftslehre).

Bamberg is a small, yet energetic university city with a sense of its history and a marked cultural life. Travelling or walking through the picturesque Old Town is easy for the 13,500 students, and the quality of life is enhanced by the intimate nature of the city. Bamberg is a city with an original character and a very special atmosphere. With more than 2,400 historically listed buildings, the "Old Town" was added to the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage Sites in 1993.

Mentoring - students will be assisted by a mentor who provides support and guidance on both academic and social matters. Computing facilities - students will have free access to the internet on campus (computing services, libraries, and departments). Language - the language centre offers the opportunity to learn German as well as other languages. Intensive German language courses (Deutsch als Fremdsprache) are offered before the start of the semester, as well as semester courses at various levels.
