Year in Industry
- ICM0026 Intercalating Module for F102
You spend the year between Stages 2 and 3 on a work placement. This is a paid placement, which usually involves research into an aspect of chemistry of interest to your host company.
At the end of the year you write a report on your work and discuss your experiences with a member of University staff who will visit you. While on your placement you are employed by your host company but also retain your student status.
In the past, students have found placements throughout the UK and, occasionally, overseas.
The School of Chemistry will give you extensive support in finding and during your industrial placement:
- At the beginning of Stage 2 we help you to write your CV and send it to our wide range of industrial contacts.
- We help you to organise your interviews, and any necessary travel to the companies.
- We keep in regular e-mail contact with you while you are on your placement and visit you during the year to discuss your progress.
Stage 3
Compulsory modules
- CHY3009 Information Literacy
- CHY3108 Advanced Organic Chemistry
- CHY3206 Advanced Physical Chemistry
- CHY3306 Advanced Inorganic Chemistry
- CHY3401 Problem Solving A
- CHY3402 Problem Solving B
