The Global Food and Agricultural Business (GFAB) postgraduate programs enable students to develop the conceptual and practical skills necessary for careers in food businesses and agribusiness.

The selection of courses enable students to gain fundamental competencies, while at the same time providing the flexibility to tailor their program to their individual background and career objectives. For example, students may focus on specific interests from value chain management or marketing to natural resource issues or agricultural policy analysis.

Career Opportunities

Students are trained for careers in the increasingly complex and diverse local, national, and global value chain networks, including food retailers, food processors, banks and financial agencies, agricultural consultancy services, research centres, input suppliers and both government and non-government organizations.

The Masters program includes 6, 3-unit foundation courses (3 courses in Global Food Studies and 3 courses in the School of Business/Commerce/Economics). The program also includes a 12 unit applied research project and 6 elective courses that make up the remaining course requirements.

Students can choose and complete specific courses which allow them to specialize in a major area (e.g. Marketing, Management, Trade Policy and Applied Finance) or choose a more general program.

  • AGRIBUS 7057 Trends and Issues in the World Food System

Three courses to the value of 9 units selected among the following:

  • MARKETNG 7005 Fundamentals of Marketing

  • COMMERCE 7033 Quantitative Methods

  • COMMGMT 7008 Management Practice

  • CORPFIN 7005 Principles of Finance

  • INTBUS 7500 Fundamentals of International Business

  • TRADE 7005 Agriculture and Food in International Trade

Elective courses to the value of 18 units chosen from courses offered in the following postgraduate programs:

Master of Global Food and Agricultural Business

Master of Commerce

Master of Trade and Development

Master of Applied Economics

Candidates may include, within those courses presented to qualify for a coursework award, other graduate level courses, subject to the approval of the Program Adviser

  • or

  • AGRIBUS 7058 Global Food & Agric Business Research Project
