The program aim is to give strong basics of geology, geophysics and its interpretation and the geological and dynamic modelling. The courses can be divided into the several parts:

  • basic geological courses,
  • basic geophysical courses,
  • modelling,
  • fundamental problems of science.

The program is constructed to give students information of the sedimentological and basin analysis, interpretation of the geophysical methods and then integration of all the data into the single geological model and run reservoir simulation, taking geomechanical properties into account. The best laboratories of KFU are used in the program. The in-situ combustion lab provide information about thermal EOR, NMR and petrophysical labs investigate core data, and the 3D GEO Center integrate all the data in the model. The best software is used in the program: TechLog and Prime for well log interpretation, Petrel for Seismic interpretation, Petrel and Roxar for static geological modelling, tNavigator and Eclipse for reservoir simulation, CMG STARS for geomechanical modelling.  Master program was created in 2015 for the international students. The program is running in English. The tutors of the program are  leading KFU professors and specialists from several oil servicing companies.

State final examination

  1. Interview in English on the profile of the program.
  2. The certificate of TOEFL, IELTS or equivalent is advantaged.
  3. Entrance exams

Entrance tests are designed to determine the practical and theoretical knowledge of the applicants.

Entrance exams structure

The first part of entrance exams includes logic, mathematics and natural science tests.

The second part includes subject oriented interview in English (can be done using internet communication). For interview it is necessary to prepare essay about yourself including following information:

  • education level;
  • previous study graduate qualification works;
  • subject oriented work experience, perhaps as part of an internship (company, position, period of work, professional activities);
  • explain what was the reason to choice of the educational program.

The questions for the interview (in English) are subject oriented and have an interdisciplinary character. They also include questions and tasks in the following disciplines:

  1. Basics in geology
  2. Geophysics
  3. Oil and gas geology
  4. Methods of search and exploration of oil and gas fields
  5. Fundamentals of industrial geology of oil and gas fields

The maximum score on the entrance examination is 100 points.
