A PhD position is available on a combined experimental and flow modelling study of the deposition and coating of fluid onto substrate. Applications are invited for a highly motivated individual to join the School of Mechanical Engineering, University of Leeds. This scientifically and industrially challenging project, funded jointly by the UKs Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and Procter & Gamble Ltd, will focus on developing understanding of the fluid coating transfer mechanism and will define the key parameters of the fluid and substrate materials. The knowledge and understandings developed in this work will inform and influence current industrial practices. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will also spend a small portion of time with Procter & Gamble.
Contents
The successful candidate will obtain an extensive understanding of computational fluid dynamics and the science associated with free-surface coating phenomena, including rheology and wetting. Students either with a mechanical engineering, process engineering, mathematics or computing background are expected to perform well in this interdisciplinary project.
Requirements
Applications are invited from candidates with or expecting a minimum of a UK upper second class honours degree (2:1), or equivalent, in an Engineering, Mathematical Computing or Science discipline.
Funding
This studentship, which is open to UK/EU students in the first instance, will pay the academic fees at the UK/EU rate (£3,975), as well as providing an annual stipend of £13,863 plus an annual industrial top up of £3,500.
