The School of Politics and International Relations at Kent was among the pioneers in the UK in developing a BA degree with a language and this programme offers you the opportunity to focus on Politics and International Relations as well as acquiring strong linguistic abilities. During your time at Kent this will be done through taking language modules in the first and second year and while abroad in your third year, by working or studying in your country of choise. For the language component, you can choose from French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. For students studying abroad, we have a wide range of This would be an ideal programme for students who wish to combine the study of Politics and International Relations in the United Kingdom with a year abroad (either studying at a university or gaining professional experience through a suitable internship in a field relevant to the study of Politics and International Relations).

This programme will ensure that students of politics and international relations acquire knowledge and understanding of political and international relations theory and analysis in a supportive and responsive learning environment; while also encouraging students to relate the academic study of politics and international relations to questions of public concern.

Upon completion of the course students should have developped the ability to use the language of their choice as well as a knowledge of the cultures, communities and societies where the language is used.

Students should have a knowledge of the political dynamics of interaction between people, events, ideas and institutions; be able to identify factors accounting for political change as well as understand the nature and significance of politics as a global activity.

Year abroad

You spend your year abroad on an approved work placement or at one of our partner institutions in France, Belgium, Canada (French); Germany (German); Italy (Italian); Portugal (Portuguese); Spain, Argentina, Uruguay (Spanish).

Students studying at a partner university take approved modules totalling up to 60 ECTS credits (equivalent to 120 Kent credits), leading to a total of 360 credits for Stages 2, A and 3.
