Career options for Mathematics graduates

Since Mathematics undergraduate degree is usually devoted to research, graduates holding a Bachelor degree usually decide to continue their education, complete a Master’s and/or PhD degree in Mathematics or related area and start scientific career as mathematicians in a variety of government or private institutions. However, a lot of career opportunities are opened for graduates of undergraduate programs.

The list of possible professions available after the completion of the undergraduate program depends on the chosen subdiscipline,  passed internships and many other factors, but some professions are available to all graduates.

Graduates holding a degree in Mathematics can start a career in banking or accountancy area as auditors, analysts, hartered accountants. Sometimes employers require specialized background in these areas, which can be developed with traineeship or internship in the chosen organization.

A lot of Mathematics graduates work in Statistics area. Statisticians work with data - collect and analyse information. This profession is in high demand in many areas of human life, such as healthcare, sports, government, market research and many others. IT and technology skills are usually strongly needed for this profession.

Third most popular career path for Mathematics graduates is teaching career. Graduates can find a job in secondary schools, but they are usually required to obtain a teacher’s diploma before starting teaching career.

After completing a degree in Mathematics, graduates can apply for a variety of related disciplines besides continuing education in Mathematics area. For example, they can enroll into study programs in Business Management, Finance and Accounting, Physics, Engineering.
