Features of financing education in Norway

By law in Norway, most public universities and colleges are free for admission even to foreigners - this is part of the country's education development policy. However, there are additional payments required to be made by the applicant. Therefore, you must carefully read them before applying to a Norwegian university. It is especially important to understand that the price level in the country is quite higher than in many European countries, and seemingly free education may require sufficient expenses.

Documents for funding living in Norway

Although the universities are free, the student must document his or her ability to pay and the ability to independently cover the cost of foodand accommodation.In 2016, the minimum required amount for the period of the academic year, which must be contained in the applicant's account: 100,920 Norwegian kroner, which is approximately 900 thousand rubles (at the exchange rate for January 2016).

Students from countries outside the Eurozone must provide an account statement with the above amount along with the application package for admission. Attention: in the absence of financial confirmation of funds, the applicant's documents will not be considered, even if there are excellent marks.

Forms of financial documents for students in Norway

Acceptable forms of submission of documents on student solvency in Norway include:

  1. Confirmation of the ownership of the specified amount in person: an account statement with the name of the applicant showing at least 900 thousand rubles.

  2. Sponsored funding: Requires a certified sponsorship letter with a recent account statement showing the required amount of money.

Obtaining a residence permit in Norway

After receiving and confirming sponsorship, the funds must be transferred to a special student deposit establishedstudent organization for freezing and storage. The creation of a deposit account for a foreign student is necessary for official confirmation that he is solvent. After the successful completion of this operation, the student receives the right to issueregistration documents and residence permits. Please note that when opening a Norwegian bank account, the money deposited in the student account will be transferred to the bank account.
