Fellowships for Arts Managers at the University of Maryland

The Fellowship program for Arts managers from around the world (selected on the basis of competitive application) offers free-of-charge tuition at the University of Maryland (the USA). Each spring for three consecutive years the fellowship holders attend a four-week program in the University residence, meeting and learning from leaders of cultural institutions from throughout the United States.

Deadline

The fellowship accepts a new class each year. Deadline for the 2017-19 Fellowship is December 1st, 2016.

Fellowship covers

  • Transportation to and from Washington, D.C. and living cost during the Fellowship;

  • Visa sponsorship;

  • Everyday allowance for living expenses;

  • Program materials.

Opportunities

  • Intensive academic training in nonprofit management, finance, marketing, fundraising, evaluation, and planning.

  • Opportunity to study under the famous masters from different cultural institutions, including site visits to select institutions.

  • Three-year tuition. First-year, second-year, and third-year fellows visit residencies at one and the same time and engage in activities tailored to their year in the program, working in intensive, collaborative groups.

  • Incessant personalized mentoring, as during so between the month-long meeting sessions. In between residencies fellows participate in virtual activities.

Eligibility

  • Fellows must have an experience serving in senior positions at such organizations as the AFCA Foundation for Arts and Culture (Egypt), American Conservatory Theater (San Francisco), Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra (Russia), Nashville Children’s Theatre, Singapore Repertory Theatre, Vancouver International Film Festival (Canada), … (full list of organizations can be seen on the program web page).

  • At least five years of administrative experience in an arts or cultural organization.

  • Fellows must currently occupy a position of an executive director (or equivalent) or the head of a major department within an arts or cultural organization.

  • High proficiency in business oral and written English.

  • Ability to attend the full term of the Fellowship (Washington D.C. residency, June 26 – July 21, 2017; June 25 – July 20, 2018; and July 1 – July 26, 2019).
