Open-mindedness: when entering US universities, they began to assess family income

Family income and several other factors that are not related to knowledge are planned to be taken into account when applying to US educational institutions. The changes began to be implemented last year, although it is still in test mode.

Upon admission to American universities, applicants take the standard SAT, which is developed by the College Board, a non-profit organization. It was first introduced at the beginning of the 20th century - in 1901. During this time, there have been major changes in the scoring system, but it was the latest innovations that shocked the Americans and sparked heated discussions.

Last year, to simplify the selection procedure, 50 educational institutions used an additional indicator. At admission, not only the knowledge of recent graduates was taken into account. The "adversity score" is assessed by 15 factors that are not directly related to knowledge. For example, they look at the crime rate in the area of residence, the value of real estate owned by the family, and the education of the parents.

On the "scale of hardship", you can get from 1 to 100 points. Privileges for those who scored less than 50. Applicants will not be notified of the assessment results according to these criteria - the scores are known only to employees of educational institutions. Parents are already sounding the alarm because they cannot fully understand how innovations will affect the process of enrolling in US universities.
