Research Grants from the American Philosophical Society

The American Philosophical Society has awarded scholars with small grants since 1933. In 2016-2017, 89 scientists were awarded, this year the society plans to award the same number of grants.

The purpose of this program is to support non-profit research. They are not intended to pay for publications or conference attendance.Participants in the program will be engaged in research at US universities for ten to twelve months in 2018.

The grant is $ 6,000 and is for future research only .The project must be published no later than one month after the end of the program.

Grant holders are invited to participate in one of the collaboration programs of the American Philosophical Society - with the British Academy or the University of Edinburgh. Both programs last one to two months;participants will spend this time at one of the partner universities in the UK doing their research project.

Requirements for candidates

Those who wish to receive a grant must have a doctoral degree or publish research papers corresponding to the level of a doctoral dissertation. Applications can be submitted by both American and foreign scientists, but all research will have to be carried out on the territory of the United States of America .

How to apply?

To apply for participation in the program, you must fill out the form on the official website, as well as attach two letters of recommendation. Please note that letters of recommendation should be aimed at supporting the project itself, not the scientist.Letters must be sent separately.

Those who wish to start working in February 2018 must apply by October 2, 2017. For those wishing to start working in April 2018, the deadline is December 1.
