UK and China strengthen educational ties

UK and China have developed a new educational cooperation plan. This contributed to the strengthening of diplomatic relations between the countries and their overcoming of the language barrier.

The agreements between them provide for the strengthening of linkages in higher education, colleges and schools, which will enhance collaborative research and information exchange, and facilitate the development of programs.

In addition, the British Minister of Education and Science Joe Johnson and the Minister of Education in China Yuan Guiren signed an agreement on the "Strategic Framework in Education" - to further strengthen relations between the two countries through educational processes in universities, vocational institutions and schools.

The 2015 Summit touched upon areas of public life that are “central to the growth and prosperity of both countries”: health, education, culture and creativity, science, sports, tourism, youth exchange.

Among the agreements reached at the Summit were:

  1. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Universities of Sheffield and Zhejiang to strengthen studentmobility between them and develop joint programs for students.

  2. Appendix to the agreement between SOAS University of London and Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU).The institutions are planning a joint scientific conference as well as the launch of dual degree programs.

  3. The main agreement at the Summit was adopted by Queen Mary between the University of London (QMUL) and Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), which suggests that the two institutions will apply to the Chinese Ministry of Education forobtaining new student programs.

  4. Agreement between Cardiff University and Beijing Normal University to establishthe new institution of the Chinese college.

“These new partnerships will enable us to develop important language skills to ensure stronger relationships in the future,” added UK Minister of State Nick Gibb.
