UK students pay the most for education in the world
According to the OECD report, students in England pay the most for university tuition. The annual World Education Survey found that with an average tuition of £ 9,000 at most universities, English students pay more than their peers in the United States, for example.
Researchers acknowledged that the high cost of fees at American Ivy League universities may slightly offset the difference, but insisted that the difference is significant anyway.
However, Andreas Schleicher, head of the organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, argues that the English education system is fair, efficient and convenient.Students do not have to pay for anything in advance and, therefore, take out loans to pay for their courses.
Figures in the report show that 19% of English education programs are funded by private sources, compared with 14% in European countries. However, this figure is still far from 45% of private capital in financing of US higher education institutions.
