Students conduct experiments in the air

February 19, 2015. (13:00). Students from the Universities of North Florida and Montana launched a hot air balloon to conduct experimental experiments at altitude. They were helped with this experience by World View,  a company that launches drones up to 140,000 feet. The balloon was launched in Arizona and came down to earth the next day.

While the balloon was in the air, students collected data for three experiments. One was an analysis of stratospheric ozone quality. Another implemented high-precision data testing (University of Montana students prepare for the 2017 eclipse ). And the third experiment tested the resistance of the technology to radiation, as this computer will be launched into space as part of a NASA mission.

This project was conducted to get students involved in research processes and to increase the number of people interested, because practice is always more interesting than theory. This project was supported by the Montana Space Consortium.
