Full grants in the U.S.

The Breakthrough Generation program runs from June through August. Organizers pay participants a stipend ($600 per week) and reimburse flight and living expenses.

Program description

The first two weeks of summer are devoted to Breakthrough Bootcamp, an intellectual accelerated course that includes intensive reading, writing, and a series of expert lectures designed to provide a foundation for the broad spectrum thinking that underpins Breakthrough politics. Topics include modernization theory, social psychology, ambitious politics and philosophy, economic and innovation policy, and technology policy.

Fellows then work in small groups divided into three program areas: Energy, Cities or Food, and Agriculture. Supervised by political staff, Fellows produce policy papers, reports, and memos. Previous drafts have appeared in the New York Times, Newsweek, Time, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Harvard Law and Political Journal, and Congressional testimony.

In addition to research and analysis, Fellows attend Breakthrough Dialogue, an opportunity to network with leading thinkers, writers, and scholars in the field of social and environmental studies, and to attend talks, debates, and participate in working groups.

All applications are submitted online and include background information, cover letter, resume, links to your publications. You can read more about the application package on the website.
