The UN conducted a global youth survey
Every year the United Nations, together with MYWorl (data.myworld2015.org/), conducts a global survey to find out what makes life better. This survey takes place in over 120 countries around the world. This year's results were surprising, as participants from developed countries, Third World countries and developing countries alike, regardless of gender, age or level of education, chose quality education as the factor for improvement (not to be unsubstantiated and show the scale, it was 3,313,000 votes out of 5,217,000).
There is only one conclusion that emerges: today all mankind desires a decent, applied and high-quality education. In order to understand what the shortcomings of the current system and the direction of development are, the creators of the YouuthSpeak project decided to survey young people. The global survey was launched for the second time in September 2014 (previously the survey was held in 2013). This year, respondents of generation Y will be able to say what they expect from the modern world. The results of the first wave of the survey were published as early as November 30 (18,000 respondents were surveyed during the first phase). Russia was in the top 15 countries participating, with 611 votes. The survey will continue until the end of March 2015.
What did the interim results show?
The younger generation still believes in the benefits of education and 75% of respondents believe that education will definitely help achieve their goals, but at the same time, 52% of respondents are not satisfied with the education they have already received.
The survey also revealed the goals young people want to achieve with a career:
40% building business connections
34% new opportunities
33% continuing education
And the main skills a modern person should have are leadership skills and language ability.Next, respondents were asked to describe their vision of their ideal job.
The most frequently chosen characteristics were: creative, stimulating, dynamic, fun, and meaningful. The rarely chosen characteristics were: formal, non-big, theoretical, governmental and developmental.
As for ways to acquire the skills they need, today's generation is used to acquiring them in very different ways than the traditional education system expects them to. Here are nine ways of practicing and acquiring skills, ranked in descending order by youth preference:
Practical learning
Volunteer projects and volunteering
Workplace learning
Conferences and events
Training
Educational institutions (only in sixth place!)
Directed study of literature
Learning through peers and colleagues
Online courses and e-learning (only ninth place, which shows how imperfect the distance learning systems still are
These are preliminary results, the final numbers will be known in two weeks.
