Interest in the German language is growing all over the world
German is in 10th place in the world in terms of the number of speakers, however, according to estimates of the number of people studying it around the world, it will be in 4thplace, second only to English, Chinese and Spanish.
Why are there so many people who want to learn German? This is primarily due to economic reasons. Germany is the leader of the European Union, and is also joined by German-speaking and industrialized Austria and Switzerland. The successes and competitiveness of these countries inspire many for promising career and business development, and make them choose to study German.
According to 2015 data, the number of learners of German in the world for the first time in 15 years has grown significantly and amounted to more than 15 million people.Interestingly, about 40% of the total number live significantly far from Europe: Brazil, Chin aand India. For example, in China, the number of German students has doubled in the past five years amid the economic success of Germany.
A wide range of exchange programs, master's programs and high quality teaching contribute to a significant attraction of interested students from all over the world.
However, the data show that the number of learners of German in Russia, on the contrary, has fallen, compared with an increasing trend in other countries. This is due to the fact that Russia is more focused on learning English as a promising one. And also, not many Russian students set themselves the goal of learning German as the first foreign language.
Still, German experts argue that the more Germany develops industrially and economically, the more foreign citizens choose it as a place to receive a quality education and build a successful career.
