How to get more energetic
"Where to get the energy to do everything?"A familiar question isn't it. Everyone has at least once had such situations when there are a lot of things to do, and there is not enough energy even for one.
We will talk about 4 sources of energy that Tony Schwartz describes in his book "The way we work, doesn't work."Read the article to find out more.
Physical energy
Tony Schwartz divides the concept of "physical energy" into 4 areas: sleep, nutrition, movement, and rest. Let's consider each separately.
Sleep is fundamental to everything else. Lack of sleep cannot be made up for with anything else on this list. The optimal sleep time for most people is 7-8 hours. You cannot train yourself to sleep for 5 hours and feel an increase in energy. Our functionality is noticeably reduced, even if we do not notice it (Tony Schwartz talks about this in great detail in the book)
To summarize: if there is no sleep, there will be no energy.
Power supply. We cannot force the other person to eat right when they are hungry for burgers and cola. But we can invite him to experiment (go through the challenge if this wording irritates him more). Give up fast food for at least a week, or better for 2, and see the results. Healthy eating will not only affect functionality but also appearance. It is unlikely that someone after this again wants to switch to a quick high-calorie snack.
Movement. Any activity increases our work productivity. It is not for nothing that they advise to do exercises in the morning. This gives good energy, if not for the whole day, but the first half of it for sure.
Rest is not social media procrastination during a break between work. We need rest to gain energy and start tasks with renewed vigor. Try replacing surfing the internet with something else. For example, make yourself some tea, turn on chill-out music, and try to refrain from picking up your phone. The quality of your vacation is much more important than its duration.
Emotional energy
Tony Schwartz divides energy into 4 categories in the graph, where “X” is our positive and negative emotions, and “Y ”is the energy level. We do the most productive work when we are on the rise of energy. Negative emotions only give us irritation.
By doing work on the negative, we burn energy and lose strength faster. To prevent this from happening, the author of the book advises you to give yourself a time-out and relax. Once our emotional energy is back to normal, we can continue to work.
Mental energy
Tony Schwartz understands mental energy as our focus, the ability to concentrate and choose the most important thing. In order not to waste energy, we need to learn to work without distraction. And to achieve results as quickly as possible, it is necessary to prioritize work and direct efforts in one specific direction.
Spiritual energy
We receive spiritual energy when we do something meaningful. To determine the significance of the work performed, the author of the book gives 3 main directions: Good - contribution to society, True - energy from knowledge, Beautiful - the ideal result of work.
In other words, we receive spiritual energy when our work performed either brings a contribution to society, or allows us to know ourselves deeper, or it is done perfectly and you like the result of what has been done. In every business, you need to try to find at least one of these areas.
Now tell us, what energy do you think affects productivity the most? What energy do you personally lack? Or maybe you have your secrets on how to become more energetic. Write everything in the comments. We will be interested to find out
