How to combine study and work

Senior students often think about starting a job and getting one step closer to financial independence.In fact, combining work and study is not easy, because you need to take into account the class schedule, time for homework and rest.We will tell you about the nuances to consider when looking for a job and how not to burn out.

Select a job

When looking for a job, your first thought is to go to the “for students” section of job sites.However, among the vacancies there are only waiters, promoters and couriers.In such a job, you will not be able to gain experience or career advancement.Moreover, salaries are unstable there.It is also worth deleting night work from the list right away.Any person needs to get enough sleep and monitor their health.Try to get a freelance job in your specialty.If possible, to a good firm.

To make it easier to combine study and work, work should:

  • provide for a free work schedule;

  • have days off;

  • offer part-time or part-time work;

  • be paid piece-rate and on time.

Agree with the teachers

Not all teachers will make concessions if you work.For some of them, attendance is an important criterion when calculating the grade.Others will meet you halfway, mostly practicing teachers.Before announcing that you are working and agreeing on free attendance, it is worth finding out how the teachers feel about it.

Do not use work as a reason for academic failure.If you don't have time to complete your homework or project, talk to your instructor.Maybe you're lucky and he'll give you a couple of days of grace.

Say that you are a student

At work, be sure to say that youlearn.At university, you will have must-have pairs and not-to-miss activities.We need to find a compromise with the bosses: work off hours on other days when there is no study, or on weekends.If possible, arrange part-time work.

Arrange in advance about vacation for the period of the session and thesis defense. If you are studying for a master's degree, you are legally entitled to paid vacation during these periods.To do this, you need a help call, which is issued in the training part.

Plan

To close work and study tasks on time, start planning.Buy a planner and write a to-do list for the week.Then schedule the days so that all tasks are crossed out by the weekend.

First, set aside time for sleep (7-8 hours) and rest (1-2 hours).Subtract this time from 24 hours, distribute your tasks to the remaining time.

Develop soft skills

The so-called flexible skills are important both in school and at work.First, learn to manage your time.This way you can set aside a couple of hours a day for self-education.If you have to read a lot, learn the speed reading technique.This will reduce the time spent preparing for seminars and exams.

It will also be useful to develop thinking and memory.Today there are many special exercises, books, training programs for this.

Rest

Rest is an important part of our life.At this time, we are recovering physically and mentally.When you study and work, it is critical to avoid burnout.

On the weekend, you can go out with friends or family.Communication with loved ones is allowed to share your emotions and get rid of negativity.If you feel like you need to be alone, read a book or watch a movie.

Yeach of us has such moments when we understand that everything is tired and we need to rest.Ignoring such impulses threatens apathy and depression.Do not get carried away with weekends outside the calendar, but arrange them for yourself when you feel an urgent need for it.Spend your time the way you like it.

Prioritize

You must choose from the very beginning what is more important to you and what you will give up if the circumstances arise.For some, it is more important to get a diploma, which will then allow you to work quietly and move up the career ladder.In addition, such people will already have experience, which will facilitate the search.For others, work and earnings may be a priority.In this case, you can also safely move on, but when changing jobs, problems may arise due to the lack of a diploma.
