Internship at UNHCR in Ecuador
Ecuador has the largest refugee population in Latin America, most of whom are people fleeing the internal armed conflict in neighboring Colombia. As of September 2015, the Ecuadorian government has recognized over 60,000 refugees in Ecuador, 60 percent of whom live in urban areas, while most of the remaining 40 percent remain near the border in remote areas. UNHCR offices are located in the provinces of Quito, Esmeraldas, Carchi, Sucumbios and Guayas.It is important to note that knowledge of Spanish is required for both office work and daily contact with refugees.
Job description:
Translate interviews and reports;
Help social workers complete resettlement registration forms (RRF);
Systematize, file and store papers on individual cases related to resettlement;
Assistance in organizing reports and translating UNHCR documents;
Operational support in management tasks.
Conditions:
UNESCO, and / or at least two years of study in the fields: law, international relations or a related field;
Very good knowledge of Spanish (oral and written);
Requires practical knowledge of English, good knowledge of an additional language (French or Arabic) will be an advantage;
Availability of free time for 6 months, starting from the end of March 2019;
Respect for ethno-cultural diversity and the ability to work in stressful situations;
Ability to adapt to requirements and work in a team.
Notes:
The person whose father,mother, son, daughter, brother or sister are UNHCR staff, including temporary staff, are not eligible for internship;
UNHCR interns will receive food and local transportation allowance (FLTA).The FLTA amount will be equivalent to 10% of the daily allowance;
Visa and transfer to the United Nations location where you will be doing your internship is self-pay
Medical insurance: you will be responsiblefor expenses related to accidents and / or illnesses occurring during the internship and must provide proof of valid medical coverage.
