Master's Degree Programs in Health Care

Unfortunately, Russia does not have some educational programs or they are not as widespread as in other countries.Today we invite you to learn more about master's programs in health care: what they are, what are the job prospects and where to study.

What programs exist

Universities offer different programs that are quite similar to each other, so it is difficult to draw a clear distinction between them, but somedifferences. In general, programs often include learning experiences and perspectives in health management and economics, medicine, epidemiology, ecology, and anthropology. There are several main areas: Global Health, Public Health, Healthcare Management and Healthcare Studies.

Global Health and International Health

The Global Health program is very multidisciplinary and includes issues of equitable access to health services, improving the health of people throughoutpeace and protection against global threats such as diseases that spread across the planet and can affect any country.Often, the program involves future employment in organizations that work in low- and middle-income countries that work on poverty and health issues. The program includes preventive and clinical care for people.

Global Health and International Health should not be confused. While the programs focus on health issues, the main difference lies in geography.International Health means working with problems outside your home country and helping other countries.Global Health is dedicated to solving problems that transcend national borders. The International Health program is quite rare and most often the aspects that it covers are included in Global Health.

Public Health

This program focuses on specific countries and domestic health policies.Usually, it includes economics and management in this area and is aimed at trainingstudents in prevention and management. An analogue of such a program in Russia can be state and municipal administration, but there are almost no programs that focus specifically on health care and prevention.

Healthcare Studies and Healthcare Management

At first glance, these programs may seem very similar. But there are differences in the subjects that students study.Healthcare Studies provide knowledge about the functioning and operation of health systems, its management, as well as knowledge related to medicine. The program can include biology, chemistry, medical ethics, finance and business courses.

Healthcare Management includes courses in health analysis, management and policy.Students are taught to identify and solve system problems, and the program contains many practical tasks. Therefore, if you want to find a job in a pharmaceutical company, for example, as a sales representative, you should choose the first program. If work in the public service is more interesting for you, then apply to Healthcare Management.

Job Prospects

Graduates of these programs have several employment options.Firstly, after graduation, there is an opportunity to continue studying in doctoral studies and engage in academic or analytical activities in the field of health at research centers or universities. The second option is to work in national and international organizations that are involved in the planning and development of health care, humanitarian activities, as well as pharmaceutical and medical companies.
