PhD Scholarships for East Asian Researchers in Berlin
Up to 12 candidates have a chance to receive a grant for studies funded by the Graduate School of East Asian Studies in Berlin. The school is also considering accepting 3 candidates who will receive grants from programs such as Freie Universität Berlin, partner institutions in East Asia, or scholarships from German or international organizations.
Theses of Graduate School candidates should explore the area of institutionalization of social, political, cultural and economic actors in the East Asia region (China, Japan, Korea).Research will have to be carried out in the context of three interrelated areas: 1) the origin and development of institutionalization processes in East Asia, 2) the effects of the influence of institutionalization on the processes of globalization and modernization in the public and state spheres, 3) the relationship of institutions in East Asia within and beyond regional borders.
Successful candidates will be able to gain additional skills in Sinology, Japanese Studies, Korean Studies, or in a discipline presented at the Graduate School - Political Science, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Business, Economics,law, history, cultural studies, humanities, theater research, environmental policy.
Language of instruction: English.Applicants must also provide certificates of proficiency in Chinese, Japanese or Korean at a B2 level or higher.
