Stanford student invents a robot lawyer

Robot Lawyer is a new free chatbot that answers the legal questions of UK citizens about parking and all kinds of road problems. According to the latest data, more than 151,000 people have already used this service and thank the author of the program for the favorable result.

Joshua Browder, the creator of this technology, opened the site when he was just 18 years old after receiving a parking ticket on Saturday morning and then experiencing how difficult it was to appeal the fine.

How does a robot lawyer function?

The robot lawyer is based primarily on technology designed for self-driving cars. When you first open the program, the chatbot starts asking you special questions aimed at a more detailed study of your case. The questions vary depending on the situation, for example, "Were you driving at the time of the accident?" or "Was it difficult to determine that you accidentally drove into the parking lot?" After the robot analyzes your answers, it will issue its verdict whether you have the right to appeal. If so, the program will generate a letter of appeal, which, if you wish, will be immediately transferred to the court.

“The robot lawyer uses a scripting language, AMK, that combines word choice and phrase similarity to find what users are asking on the web,” explains Browder himself.

So far, the site has shown 47% success, while many other robotic lawyers have a much lower share of the benefits. In a way, this is a kind of breakthrough for a young student at Stanford University.

Initially, the site was intended to combat the arbitrariness that professional lawyers of relatively ordinary people do, charging exorbitant interest and fees for ordinary auxiliary advice. In addition to parking rights, the robot is also familiar with flight cancellation and delay laws and insurance coverage.

In mid-March, it is planned to launch this program already inNew York. About 7,000 parking tickets are issued in this city every day, and collectively, people pay more than $ 102 million in fines per year. Browder believes that he can change all this, so the adkovat robot is not the only and not the last thing he is going to do to help society.
