University for Peace: Where to Study International Relations

The University for Peace (University for Peace) is a higher education institution in Costa Rica, which was established by the United Nations.It is a relatively young university founded in 1980.As the name implies, here you can get a master's or PhD degree in international relations, human rights protection, peacekeeping. You can study not only in English, but also in Spanish: there are two master's programs in this language.

Requirements for applicants

Your motivation is the main requirement. You must strive for positive change in society and around the world.It is advisable to have work experience and international cooperation that is related to your future program.If you have participated in a volunteer program abroad, you already have a big plus upon admission.

UPEACE does not have specific requirements for your GPA, but you must show good academic performance. Also, there are no specific requirements for the areas in which applicants must have an education.University students come from different disciplines: international relations, law, natural, humanitarian, social and other sciences.

Tuition fees and scholarships

Tuition for master's programs is $ 19,500 per year.This amount includes a $ 17,000 tuition fee and a $ 2,500 administration fee.

University offers funding :

  • Partial Masters Scholarship up to 50% of tuition fees.Students from certain countries, including Russia, can apply. Consider candidates with a good resume and portfolio.

  • Partial scholarship for masters and postgraduates up to 50% of the contribution, which is automatically received by volunteers and UN workers, as well as professors partner universities.

  • Partial scholarship up to 30% of the contribution, which is automatically received by graduates of partner universities.

University programs

International Peace Studies. You will study the causes and consequences of conflicts, their impact on global change and people. The course will discuss real cases and ways of resolving conflicts that are undertaken by society, international organizations and individual countries.

Gender and Peace Building. On this program, you will learn about the role of gender in different regions and its connection with violence, international conflicts and their elimination.

Media and Peace. Here you will learn about the role of the media in resolving conflicts and promoting the idea of ​​peace: what measures can the media take to achieve these goals? Can they influence the resolution of the conflict?

Peace Education. One of the most unusual programs of the university, which focuses on educational activities.Students are trained to work in formal and non-formal education. Graduates become teachers in schools and universities, and also work for non-profit organizations at the national and international level (including the UN).

Environment, Development and Peace. Here you will gain knowledge about achieving sustainable development and combating environmental conflicts. The program addresses issues of resource management, climate change and social movements.

Responsible Management and Sustainable Economic Development. Students learn about sustainable development and how to achieve it. On the program, you will learn how economic problems affect society, how to achieve sustainable development and preserve peace for future generations.

International Law and Human Rights. Here you will study the principles of functioning of international organizations for the protection of human rights, learn how to assess how these rights are respected at the regional level, and also learn about the development and implementation of standards for the protection of human rights.

International Law and the Settlement of Disputes. Graduatesprograms know how international law and institutions resolve disputes and conflicts, how courts and tribunals resolve issues of economics, maritime law and other areas.
