J'son & Partners Consulting announced the volume of online education market

March 2, 2015 (12:00). The online education market was only in its infancy for a long period. But in spite of this, the first sites appeared as early as the 90s, and as early as 2002 the first really significant project, MIT OpenCourseWare, was launched. And the launch of three powerful platforms: Coursera, EdX, and Udacity, ensured the takeoff of the market.

Despite the fact that the start of online education was not the easiest, the market was taken quickly and attracted many investors. The number of  users of online platforms reached 20 million, and the investment that went into their development totaled $300 million.

The market of online education in Russia began only a year later than the world leaders. But by now it is filled with more than 50 large-scale projects with tens of thousands of listeners. For example, the service LinguaLeo has about 6 million listeners.

This year J'son & Partners Consulting published an updated review of the Russian online education market.

The main feature of the Russian market of such services is that they are paid. In its turn the experience of the West was built only on the free services. The Russian online education market is attracting venture capitalists. Over the past 2.5 years, Russian projects have attracted about $15 million.
