Through a grant from the National Institute for General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), the Wyoming Idea Network for Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) program offers competitive awards for outstanding community college life science students who are transferring to the University of Wyoming to pursue careers in the biomedical sciences. The program will provide financial support for selected students to attend UW for up to 2 years and engage in INBRE-supported research activities in addition to their degree coursework. Note that the second year of support is contingent on meeting the requirements detailed below and receipt of continuing funding from NIGMS for Wyoming INBRE. The award is $2500 per semester for the fall and spring terms. Recipients must transfer to UW and enroll full-time for the fall 2021 term.

In the first fall semester, students will rotate through one research laboratory and take a 1 credit course on navigating University life and scientific research. In the spring of their junior year, students will rotate through a second laboratory. During thei first year, students will have the option to engage in research in a laboratory of interest with INBRE approval. By the end of their second rotation, students will choose a 'home lab' to conduct independent mentored research and will be invited to submit research proposals for summer internships. Their research will continue through their senior year. Students may participate in additional or concurrnet scholarship/fellowship programs with approval of Wyoming INBRE.
