Every student admitted to HBS demonstrates a unique ability to become a leader who will make a difference in the world. While admissions are based on merit, financial aid is awarded based on demonstrated need.
HBS Fellowships are gifts that do not need to be paid back, and nearly 50% of the class receives a fellowship award. The average HBS Fellowship is approximately $37,000 per year, or $74,000 total. All students are encouraged to apply for an HBS Fellowship after being admitted to the program.
HBS Fellowships function much like scholarships at other schools, but we do not offer full scholarships. When determining fellowship amounts, we approach financial aid as a shared investment in your future—and a shared responsibility.
HBS Fellowships are calculated based on your income from the last three years, along with any assets you have. Students with higher earnings contribute at a higher rate than students with lower earnings. If you are married and/or have children, we also consider a portion of your spouse’s income and assets, as well as your higher cost of living.
Employer sponsorship and loans are considered outside scholarships for financial aid purposes. Students who receive employer loans or sponsorships are generally not eligible for HBS Fellowships.
Approximately 50% of the class receives an award, and the average scholarship is $40,000 per year, or $80,000 total.
An international applicant is required to hold a college or university degree equivalent to a four-year American baccalaureate degree. Equivalent degrees include international three-year bachelor degree programs. All post-secondary educational institutions you have attended and received a degree from, including technical and professional schools, should be listed on the application form. The complete, formal names of the institutions and the title of any diploma or degree earned must be used.
When providing uploaded transcripts for the application, all course names must be translated into English before submission. An unofficial translation is acceptable in your initial written application. However, if admitted to Harvard Business School, you will be required to provide an official original language paper transcript sent directly from each college or university attended to World Education Services (WES), a third-party verification agency, along with an official word-for-word English translation of that transcript. The School reserves the right to withdraw any offer of admission if there is a discrepancy between the uploaded unofficial translation and the official original language transcript and/or the official translation.
The HBS MBA Program is built upon an immersive learning experience that encourages public speaking, group discussions, and active class participation. To succeed, students must possess a highly developed proficiency in written and oral English.
The Admissions Board strongly encourages international applicants to apply by the second round deadline to allow admitted candidates ample time to address visa issues.
