The EUIF Gimbernat is at the forefront of this teaching Osteopathy in our country. Its 25 years' experience in teaching Osteopathy mean the school can offer a complete, well-balanced programme, in terms of both timing and course contents.

Osteopathy is the name that, in 1874, the American doctor A. Taylor Still gave to the exclusively manual therapies that he used to treat patients. He had observed the close relation there is between structure and function, between the musculoskeletal system and that of the organs, both of which need to function well to ensure good health.

Osteopathy uses manual contact for diagnosis and treatment. It respects the relationship between body, mind and spirit in health and illness, emphasising the structural and functional integrity of the body and its intrinsic tendency towards self-cure. This holistic approach to treatment is based on the notion that human beings form a dynamic functional unit, in which all parts are inter-related. Treatment concentrates on areas of tension in tissues or of dysfunctions between structures that may prevent the normal working of bone, muscle and joint mechanisms, or organic, neuronal, vascular or biochemical ones.
