The MITS programme, by focusing on creativity and innovation in an organisational context, aims to produce confident graduates who are equipped to make an immediate impact on the world of business and society more generally. The new degree is founded on a challenging and distinctive curriculum that coheres strongly to the Schools educational aim of delivering programmes which respond to market developments, and which are designed to produce graduates who are valued for their intellectual rigour and professional competences and are of value to society.
The programme has an increased focus on nurturing high-level management skills, and placing greater emphasis on practical hands-on knowledge which, complemented and underpinned by a wide range of theoretical perspectives, from which the students will better understand the antecedents, processes and effects of technology, and which will ultimately lead to more innovative, creative, well-rounded and employable graduates.
The configuration of the programme delivers the opportunity to capitalise on the expertise available in the departments of Strategy and Organisation and Management Science. In particular, with a combination of expert input in specific areas it will offer significant benefits to potential students with IT knowledge to develop and further enhance their skills available in the expertise offered in project management and business process management within the Department of Management Science.
The MSc in Management of Information Technology Systems consists of core classes in Management (Managing Complexity in Organisations, Critical Engagement with Technology, Creativity Change and Innovation, Strategic Technology Management) and Information Systems (Management Information Systems, IT Project Management, Integrated Business Process Management) two electives, and a practically-orientated end-of-programme project.
Combined, these modules provide students with a critical focus in blending a managerial perspective, whilst delivering sufficient understanding and familiarity with technology and practical insight into the issues surrounding the planning, implementation and operation of business information systems and associated technology in contemporary organisations.
