Nursing Careers

Nursing: One of the fastest-growing careers in one of the fastest-growing career fields

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the employment of nurses is expected to climb up to 22% over the 2008-2018 decade, faster than the average of ALL occupations. This growth is in large part due to technological breakthroughs, allowing a greater number of healthcare issues to be deemed treatable. Also, the aging baby-boomer population has increased the demand for nurses across America, as older people traditionally require more care than that of younger individuals.

Nurses comprise the largest healthcare occupations in the U.S., with approximately 2.6 million jobs according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In addition, nearly 60% of those nursing positions are located in hospitals around the country.

A career filled with caring

As a nurse, an individual must possess a caring nature and the will to help others in need. A career as a nurse consists of utilizing many caring attributes in your daily responsibilities such as:

  • Administering treatment to patients
  • Recording medical histories and symptoms
  • Analyzing results from diagnostic tests
  • Educating patients and the public on various medical conditions
  • Providing service and support to patients’ families
  • Aiding in follow-ups and rehabilitation

The faculty of Saint Louis University’s online BSN degree program helps RN students to blend nursing theory and practice to promote application of their studies to their work as nurses. We do the most we can to assure that our students receive state-of-the-art education from our distinguished faculty.
