The Master of Science in Industrial Engineering is an excellent preparation for the next generation of leading managers and project directors in all technically focused areas of industry. This online-based programme is designed to allow international students to continue with their current employment while at the same time achieving a superior qualification in Industrial Engineering.
The programme is held in English and imparts comprehensive skills for handling management tasks and training in procedures and methods required in order to organise business processes in a complex environment. In particular, these include operative management of IT processes, controlling, human resource management, logistics, business management, and strategic planning. Therefore, the Master in Industrial Engineering is a comprehensive supplement to any technically oriented academic degree.

Course objectives

This programme prepares you for leadership and management tasks in an international, industrial business context. It is designed to ensure your professional success and career development notwithstanding your current job, childrearing or any other commitments which may limit your mobility. Approx. 80% of the programme is conducted online (via internet) and about 20% is offered as face-to-face meetings in the form of seminars, workshops or examinations, which take place on weekends in Kiel but can also be attended via video-conferencing facilities provided to the students.

Language requirements

Evidence of English skills by a certificate, e.g. TOEFL (Internet-based) min. 78 points, IELTS min. Band 5, LCCI (level 2), FCE or one semester of studies or six months of work experience in an English-speaking country

Academic requirements

(1) Requirement for admission to Master's studies in Industrial Engineering is a successfully completed initial vocational university degree in a business management or technical subject for which at least 180 credit points (CP) have been awarded in accordance with ECTS.
(2) Depending on previous knowledge, proof of business management and/or technical modules must also be provided.
(3) Requirements for study are as follows:
  • Proof of a completed Bachelor's degree (certificate including detailed summary of grades) with an overall grade of at least 2.5. The chairman of the examination committee will decide in exceptional cases.
  • Proof of adequate knowledge of English e.g. TOEFL test (internet-based) min. 78 points, IELTS min. Band 5, LCCI (level 2), FCE or at least one semester of study at a university, or six months' occupational experience in an English-speaking country
  • Proof of at least one year's vocational experience within the field of industrial engineering
