The Pennsylvania State University offers a comprehensive Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering designed to prepare students for addressing some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. This program provides a solid foundation in engineering principles, combined with a specialized focus on environmental systems, sustainable development, and resource management. Students will gain expertise in areas such as water and wastewater treatment, air pollution control, waste management, environmental modeling, and ecological restoration. The curriculum integrates coursework in chemistry, biology, geology, and mathematics, providing a multidisciplinary approach essential for effective environmental problem-solving. Throughout the program, students have opportunities for hands-on learning through laboratory experiments, fieldwork, internships, and research projects, often in collaboration with industry leaders and government agencies. The training aims to equip graduates with the technical skills necessary to design environmentally sustainable solutions, monitor environmental quality, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The interdisciplinary nature of the program encourages critical thinking, ethical considerations, and innovation, fostering leaders who can develop environmentally responsible engineering practices. With a strong emphasis on real-world applications and contemporary issues such as climate change, renewable energy, and pollution control, the Environmental Engineering program at Penn State prepares students for diverse careers in consulting firms, government agencies, research institutions, and industry. Graduates are also well-positioned to pursue advanced studies or professional certifications in environmental and engineering fields. The program’s commitment to excellence and sustainability reflects Penn State's broader mission of preparing students to serve society by creating effective solutions for sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

In Environmental Engineering, a minimum of 21 credits of graduate course work (400 level and above) is required beyond the Master’s degree or beyond the 24 required credits for those in the Direct Entry program. For Ph.D. candidates who have completed a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering at Penn State, a minimum of 15 credits of graduate course work (400 level and above) is required.
