Todays animal specialists need a fundamental scientific training combined with a critical attitude towards all aspects of sustainable development of animal husbandry. As an animal scientist you work not only with farm animals such as cows, pigs and poultry, but also with companion animals (dogs, cats and horses), animals in the wild or zoo animals. Animal health plays an important role. You investigate how animal diseases can be prevented, for example by means of good nutrition, effective housing and by designing good breeding programmes. You can therefore provide a real contribution to animal welfare and food safety; these are topics that are not only the focus of interest in the Netherlands and in Europe, but also throughout the world. In order to find a solution to such complex problems we make sure you are well prepared. In this programme, you study a number of biological subareas, such as physiology, genetics, ethology and ecology. Moreover, you have the opportunity to learn a great deal about business processes in subjects such as business economics, business administration and marketing.
