The programme is open to students from a range of backgrounds - Biology, Healthcare, Medicine or Computer Science - and looks to provide comprehensive multidisciplinary training tailored to the needs of each student. This course is open to those with a good honours degree with at least 50% Computer Science, or those with a degree in a Medical or Biological Science and sufficient computing experience. The one-year MSc programme consists of taught modules running over two semesters. A semester is 12 weeks long. Each MSc student normally takes 6 modules or their equivalent in credits (90 credits). The academic year begins towards the end of September: exact dates vary from year to year.

At the end of the taught modules, there is a week's course on Research and Professional Skills, after which students start work on a Research Project of their choice. This is to be completed and a dissertation submitted by the end of the academic year. In order to be allowed to submit the dissertation, students must however have passed the assessment for the taught modules.

Academic entry qualification overview: The Masters programme is open to students with first or good second class honours degrees in Computer Science, Medicine, Nursing, Biology, Bioinformatics or other Life Science discipline or from a joint programme with at least 50% Computer Science or Life Science content, or any overseas equivalent. Other educational backgrounds e.g. a mathematical science with sufficient computing content will be considered. An honours degree in another subject together with sufficient relevant industrial/health experience is also acceptable. Applicants without a UK equivalent honours degree, but with sufficient relevant industrial and educational experience, will be considered for admission.Although the optional modules include some focussed on developing software programming skills, both these and the programme as a whole require that all students already possess a basic level of programming skill and practical experience.English language: All students are required to be proficient in spoken and written English. In order to be accepted on an MSc programme in the School of Computer Science applicants need to achieve an IELTS score of 6.5 (minimum) or TOEFL 600+ (paper-based) 250+ (computer-based) or Cambridge Proficiency Grade 'C' (minimum) before the programme start date.In addition, overseas students who have attained the minimum IELTS score of 6.5, but less than 7.0, are required to attend the University's English classes during the MSc year of study.International entry requirements: We accept a range of qualifications from different countries.
