Chemistry is the study of atoms and molecules and of their function, uses, and applications in the world around us. That may sound dull, but think of the implications - efficient fuels, dyes that do not fade, stainless steel and non-rusting metals, antibiotics and fungicides, adhesives, long lasting tires, weather resistant coatings, breathable fabrics and no-iron garments, light but strong construction materials, bullet-proof vests, CDs and LCDs, micro circuitry and computer chips - and all at an amazing low cost. Life would be very different without chemistry.Chemistry is important, exciting, and fun, but the study of chemistry is also demanding. The Chemistry program at Concordia University College provides an excellent background for advancing to a professional program, for proceeding to an after-degree in education, or for starting as a chemist in industry. As in all Concordia programs, class sizes are small so you get personal attention, plenty of individual experience with instruments, and the chance to know the instructors well. A particular feature of Chemistry at Concordia is the emphasis on computers. The program begins with an introductory course in which fully half of the experiments are "performed" on the computer. Subsequent courses use computers to draw chemical structures, collect and process data, control instruments, and model molecular systems and reactions.
