If you want to deepen your knowledge in the field of Chemistry, the Master s programme in Chemistry is for you. It provides the theoretical and laboratory knowledge that many employers demand. We offer a challenging programme with great flexibility and a strong link to current research.
Chemistry is an ever-growing field of central importance in society, even in areas that are not traditionally associated with Chemistry. The demand for people with good knowledge of Chemistry is growing, and the labour market for students with a Master s degree in Chemistry is strong.
The University of Gothenburg is engaged in high-quality research in Chemistry, benefitting from world-class researchers and extensive international cooperation. As a Master s student in Chemistry, you will pursue your studies in a stimulating environment in close contact with the latest research.
After graduating
After graduating, you can work in both the private and public sectors, for example with research and development, nature conservation and environmental protection. Knowledge within analytical chemistry is attractive in almost all areas that require chemical profiling. You may also choose to continue with a doctoral programme.
The Master s programme in Chemistry enables you to specialise in areas that you are particularly interested in, such as:
- Analytical Chemistry
- Atmospheric Science
- Biochemistry
- Biophysics
- Dermatochemistry
- Electrochemistry
- Inorganic Chemistry
- Marine Chemistry
- Medicinal Chemistry
- Organic Chemistry
- Physical Chemistry
The programme also enables you to study other subjects within the natural sciences, such as Biology, Physics, Earth Science, Mathematics and Computer Science. Many research areas are interdisciplinary in nature, bridging traditional disciplinary boundaries. Some examples are Environmental Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Materials Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry and Marine Chemistry.
In your second year, you will complete a degree project corresponding to 30, 45 or 60 higher education credits, implying a total of 90, 75 or 60 higher education credits of coursework. It is possible to make certain changes that will allow you to complete courses during the second year. Normally, the degree project has the same focus area as your selected in-depth courses.
A chance to fund your studies
The University of Gothenburg is convinced that education and research flourish in an international environment. A mixture of students from different cultures enriches the learning environment and the University believes that motivated students should have a chance to study here, even if they dont have the means to cover all costs.
There are a number of opportunities to get a scholarship if you apply to the University of Gothenburg. If you are obliged to pay tuition fees in Sweden, you can apply for our scholarship that cover from half, to all of your tuition fees for the entire study programme.
There are also scholarship programmes available at bachelor's, master's, PhD and post-doctoral levels, which are administered by the Swedish Institute. The scholarship programmes target highly qualified students from certain countries.
