Are you interested in understanding the relationship between consciousness, the brain and subjective wellbeing? This international masters programme allows you to study these and related issues in-depth.

Programme overview
Our one-year master's programme Cognitive Neuroscience: Mind, Brain and Wellbeing is an academically challenging programme for graduates with a background in cognitive neuroscience or consciousness studies. It might also be suitable as a conversion programme for students interested in these fields, with a background in relevant topics such as philosophy, cognitive science, neuroscience or experimental psychology. The programme, which is taught entirely in English, serves as a strong academic foundation for subsequent research and teaching in cognitive neuroscience. It requires sustained and focused student effort over one year.

What will you study?
The program aims to lead to thorough knowledge of the theoretical principles and the main empirical methods and findings of the three related fields: cognitive neuroscience, consciousness studies and the scientific study of subjective well-being. Together, these fields will provide students with the present leading scientific understanding of the relationships between consciousness, well-being and the brain. More specifically, in one part of the program, brain plasticity is explored more closely through studies of the research field based on what various scholars have contributed to the knowledge path. Another part takes up various methods in cognitive neuroscience and students receives a closer look at a number of established brain imaging techniques such as EEG, PET and fMRI etc.

Programme content
During the first half-year semester, successful applicants complete four courses, in topics including cognitive neuroscience, research method and statistics. These are taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and group discussions, many of which are held by internationally leading researchers at the department. During the second semester, students receive one-on-one thesis supervision from a senior faculty member, in order to successfully carry out an empirical or theoretical study in cognitive neuroscience, as the basis for their final thesis.

Admission requires at least a 3-year Bachelors degree (180 ECTS credits) in Cognitive Neuroscience or equivalent. A further requirement is proof of skills in English equivalent of studies at upper secondary level in Sweden, known as English course 6 / English B. This is normally demonstrated by means of an internationally recognized test, e g IELTS, TOEFL or equivalent. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 TOEFL paper-based test score : 575 TOEFL iBT® test: 90
