Computational intelligence is an exciting area that brings together research in engineering, computing and neuroscience. Recent advances in how the brain works, and applications such as biologically inspired robotics, have occurred, in large part, due to a greater understanding of computational intelligence as a unified discipline.

You will have a numerate degree such as engineering, mathematics or physical sciences and a passion for learning about how engineering, computing and neuroscience can be brought together in solving challenging problems about the brain and learning.

The MSc will prepare you for a wide range of potential careers from fundamental research, through to engineering and science roles in major organisations. In addition to the specialist knowledge you will acquire, the multi-disciplinary nature of the MSc, and many of the techniques you will learn, are highly sought after in industry and research establishments worldwide.

You will be taught by world-leading experts from the departments of Automatic Control & Systems Engineering, Computer Science, and the neuroscience group in Psychology. We have wide ranging expertise and research interests spanning everything from developing models of how the brain works through fundamental algorithm development to investigating how robots interact and can be applied to the real world.

This course provides the multi-disciplinary knowledge and skills you will need to meet the demand for experts in computational intelligence. You will study a mixture of modules in computational neuroscience, machine learning, neural networks, modelling and simulation of natural systems, multi-sensor data fusion, adaptive intelligence and robotics. You will also receive training in research skills and will undertake a substantial individual project which will allow you to specialise even further.

Minimum 2:1 honours degree or equivalent in a numerate subject such as engineering, mathematics or physical sciences.English language requirements for overseas students:Overall IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component or equivalent. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 IMPORTANT NOTE: Since April 2014 the ETS tests (including TOEFL and TOEIC) are no longer accepted for Tier 4 visa applications to the United Kingdom. The university might still accept these tests to admit you to the university, but if you require a Tier 4 visa to enter the UK and begin your degree programme, these tests will not be sufficient to obtain your Visa. The IELTS test is most widely accepted by universities and is also accepted for Tier 4 visas to the UK- learn more.
