Throughout the course students will gain knowledge, skills and experience in the planning, design, implementation, operation, management, maintenance and support of complex LAN and WAN networks. This vital foundation will develop into a solid understanding of the tools, procedures and standards needed for todays network administration.
Most importantly, the course incorporates high levels of hands-on learning, most notably in our state of the art networking laboratories and through the use of advanced network simulators.
Career opportunities
The course is accredited by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and fully meets the educational requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration.
Graduates are often employed as network administrators, designers, engineer, analysts, scientists and researchers. Departing London Metropolitan students have found employment at Cisco Systems, Nortel, Sprint, Cable & Wireless, British Telecom, Vodafone, Microsoft UK, Scansafe, Intel and many others.
Course Structure
There are six core modules and a dissertation of around 15,000 words.

* Broadband Networks
* Computer Network Analysis and Simulation
* Security Audit and Compliance
* Research and Development Skills
* Project
Each module is organised around weekly sessions of direct contact, which includes formal lectures, seminars, demonstrations, case studies, presentations, as well as supervised hands-on laboratory and tutorial sessions. Students are expected to supplement the above by directed reading, investigation and private study.

Assessment
You are assessed via coursework reports, case studies, individual and group research assignments, written and practical examinations and a final dissertation.
