In today's world, we're surrounded by the practical applications of digital systems. We've come to rely on our phones, cars, games, planes and more - so much so that opportunities for the professionals that devise these systems are increasing rapidly. This postgraduate course in Digital Systems will give you the tools you need to make the most of these opportunities, and embark on a fascinating and rewarding career.
Drawing on your current system design and implementation skills, you'll learn the theory and practice that will allow you to create purpose built programmable data processing systems in a range of sizes and complexities. While learning about digital signal processing, digital techniques and communication, VHSIC (Very High Speed Integrated Circuit) Hardware Description Language (VHDL) and embedded system design, you'll also have the opportunity to apply your knowledge in practical situations.
So that you'll be equipped for all the demands of a senior or specialist role, you'll also study high level management techniques, giving you the confidence to take on positions that require strategic thinking and workplace management.
Throughout the course, you'll gain the combination of technical skills and practical experience sought after by employers in this vital field. You'll learn to employ industry standard software and hardware tools to implement digital signal processing techniques, design, develop and program embedded systems to meet predetermined specifications using 8 and 32 bit processors, and advance your appreciation and application of VHDL and FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) system implementation. You'll be able to analyse, design and critically evaluate performance of digital communication systems, complete an advanced research and design project in this field, develop and construct/synthesise a solution (at all stages critically analysing your progress), develop and utilise advanced communication skills both in written, oral and pictorial forms, analyse management problems and synthesise solutions.
As an MSc Digital Systems graduate, opportunities can present themselves in a wide variety of fields, such as:
* Automotive industries
