Educate is an international postgraduate programme in Water Resources and Environmental Management organised by four leading Universities in the South-Eastern European Region: the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Belgrade, the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest and the University of Ljubljana. The programme directly contributes to sustainable environmental management and pollution abatement by promoting integrated, system-oriented thinking, methodologies and tools.

The course follows a flexible distance-learning programme based on e-learning and the educational material is delivered online, in English. The course is addressed to graduates in Engineering, Natural and Applied Sciences and professionals from the public or private sector seeking specialisation in the field of Water Resources and Environmental Management. It is particularly suitable for working professionals who cannot afford a major disruption in their work, and who can attend in parallel with their working commitments without leaving their area of residence. Participants can follow the entire postgraduate course (11 modules and postgraduate thesis) or alternatively they can follow selected course elements, such as Thematic Areas and/or Modules according to their needs.

* Coastal Erosion Management
* Statistics for Water Resources

Modules in Thematic Areas 1 and 3 begin in September 2010 and modules in Thematic Areas 2 and 4 begin in February 2011.

The postgraduate course in Water Resources and Environmental Management is a flexible, distance learning programme based on e-learning. Lectures and tutorials are developed in English. Students can follow the entire postgraduate course or alternatively they can select specific course elements, such as Thematic Areas and/or Modules according to their needs.

The full programme is organised as a pedagogic continuum and includes:

* An introduction and common scientific background to the participants, organised under Thematic Area 1
* The acquisition and use of concepts in urban water management in an integrative approach within a sustainable
make-space-for-water management context, organised under Thematic Area 2
* A thematic specialisation in the issues of catchment and environmental management by utilising hydro-informatics tools, including distributed hydrologic models, advanced optimisation and geostatistics under Thematic Area 3
* Issues of policy, legislation, decision-making and environmental assessment with an emphasis on the Water Framework Directive (WFD), as well as other advanced topics are provided under Thematic Area 4
* A research thesis

Academic RequirementsThe Educate programme invites applications from an international audience and is targeting recent university graduates and professionals from the public or private sector seeking specialisation in the field of Water Resources and Environmental Management.Successful candidates must have a good first degree from a recognized university with at least 300 European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits or equivalent in Engineering.All candidates should demonstrate proficiency in English. Admission is based on the academic and intellectual excellence of applicants as well as their motivation and prior experience. Accreditation

Successful completion of the entire postgraduate course (2 years) leads to the award of the Diploma of Academic Specialization in Water Resources and Environmental Engineering from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Belgrade. The degree awarded by the University of Belgrade is recognised by the National Academic Recognition Information Center of Greece (D.O.A.T.A.P.). In case that only specific modules are selected students receive a certificate that includes the corresponding ECTS credits obtained upon successful completion of the selected modules.
