As well as covering PC and microcontroller based hardware, the programme enables students to become familiar with the latest operating systems and development software. It also provides up-to-date and industry-relevant examples of embedded systems applications, thereby maximising career prospects for successful graduates.

MSc Embedded Systems is accredited by the Engineering Council through Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) as partially meeting the educational requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

Career opportunities
Embedded Systems have a very wide application area ranging from music playing birthday cards to unmanned spacecraft. Various types of embedded system products are now incorporated into a vast range of transport vehicles, domestic appliances, medical and diagnostic equipment, and communication and entertainment systems.

The list is truly endless and continues to grow everyday. Given these vast areas of application, the demand for good embedded systems engineers have been high and it is expected that this demand will continue for the foreseeable future.

Course Structure
The course consists of six core modules and an embedded systems project.

Embedded PC Systems
Real Time Data Processing
Advanced Embedded Controllers & Standards
Mobile Embedded Systems
Research and Development Skills
Project

Assessment
Students are assessed via coursework reports, case studies, individual and group research assignments, examinations and an embedded systems project.

Applicants should normally have at least a lower second-class Honours degree in Electronics, Computer Science or a similar subject OR successful completion of Pre-Masters in Computing and Technology. Those with relevant professional qualifications or extensive professional experience will also be considered and strongly encouraged to apply. International students are obliged to meet the Universitys English Language qualification requirements.
